KATHMANDU, June 29: Police have received permission to detain the person involved in indiscriminately beating up a community dog in Kirtipur for five days.

KATHMANDU, June 29: Police have received permission to detain the person involved in indiscriminately beating up a community dog in Kirtipur for five days. 


The person had beaten up the dog so severely that its eye was gouged out.

After Sneha's Care filed a formal complaint against the individual who brutally beat the dog, causing its eye to pop out, the District Administration Office, in Kathmandu granted the police a five-day detention period to investigate further the case.


On Thursday, Suresh Maharjan, a local from Panga, Kirtipur, beat the dog. He was arrested the same day.


DSP Bhuvaneshwar Prasad Shah, the chief of Kirtipur Police Circle, stated that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Maharjan, the person who beat the dog, claimed he did so as revenge because the dog ate his chicks.


The injured dog is being treated at the Animal Medical Center. Due to the dog's critical condition, it is being kept on oxygen support.


The law prohibits any cruel treatment or brutal killing of animals. Those who commit such acts can face up to three months in prison and a fine of up to Rs 5,000.
