It’s always good to learn something new and visit some places that are different. Traveling gives new experience and sense of aliveness. One can learn from different geographical and cultural aspects while traveling. Sirjana College of Fine Arts in collaboration with Sirjana Contemporary Art Gallery, Harnamadi Art Foundation and Shree Jyoti Secondary School organized three-day art workshop ‘Sirjana Watercolor Workshop-2018 and Sirjana Children’s Art Workshop- 2018’ at Harnamadi 18, Hetauda with an aim to broaden the knowledge of students and create interest in art for school students. The workshop began on Friday.
For the workshop, three watercolor artists—NB Gurung, D Ram Palpali and Dipendra Banepali— President, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of International Watercolor Society Nepal respectively, conducted a watercolor workshop for a total of 31 students of Sirjana College of Fine Arts. Likewise, school students of Shree Jyoti Secondary School participated in the workshop for painting, paper craft, and mural conducted by Samjhana Rajbhandari, Dewen Pandey and Bijaya Maharajan from Sirjana College of Fine Arts respectively.
Training in folk art concludes
“The workshop could be done anywhere but due to our connection with Harka Ramtel, president of Harnamadi Art Foundation who is also the Chairperson of Shree Jyoti Higher Secondary School; we choose to do the workshop here. Meanwhile, we not only believe in promoting artists but being an artist it is our responsibility to organize art activities for generating student’s interest in art,” shared Navindra Man Rajbhandari, Vice Chair of Sirjana College of Fine Arts. For him, art helps to discover the sense of appreciation in life and also makes a person open minded and added, “Those who have the knowledge of art, their outlook toward the world is positive and art brings change in their aesthetic consciousness.”
During the workshop, held inside the school premise, the students were excited to get participated in drawing, paper craft, and mural. Sharing her experience after the workshop, Kriti Bayalkoti student of grade VIII shared, “I enjoyed a lot while creating drawings and using acrylic color. I have never used acrylic color and I found it quite interesting. I hope for similar activities in the future as well. I learned a lot about art today.”
The students were instructed to bring leaves found at their school premise and they were given colors to use their imagination and create. They created various birds and animals using the imprints of leaves. Their excitement increased as they could give shape and forms to the imprints of leaves on paper. Talking about the workshop Jaya Ram Thapa, Principal of Shree Jyoti Secondary School added, “I am happy that students are enjoying and learning at the same time. Through the workshop, our students have gained a new level of confidence and they now know that they can create beautiful things using things that are available in their surroundings.”
The workshop not only brought out confidence in the school students, students from Sirjana College of Fine Arts also got the chance to see a new place along with learn painting techniques from the senior artists. For Suman Rai, student at Sirjana College of Fine Arts, the workshop gave him a chance to visit new place as well as learn from senior artists. Likewise, another student from Sirjana College of Fine Arts, Manisha Dongol added, “I always wanted to work along seniors and this workshop gave me that chance. And I learned different techniques while working in watercolor medium from the seniors.”
