Three minors killed, one missing after their house swept away by flood

SURKHET, July 16: Three girls lost their lives in Rukum West due to floods caused by incessant rains.


Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Arjun Chand Thakuri, chief of Karnali Police Office, said that the girls were killed when their house was swept away by floods from the Tatopani and Jinchour rivers in Athabiskot Municipality-12 of Rukum West around 12:30AM on Monday.

The deceased were identified as eight-year-old Hitmaya Pun, five-year-old Dhanisha Pun, and four-year-old Anisha Sarki, who were all in the same house. Their father, 40-year-old Dilli Pun, was devastated when the flood engulfed their home.


Mayor Ravi KC of Athabiskot Municipality mentioned that five houses were swept away by the floodwaters, and seven people sustained injuries. Those injured include 10-year-old Bijay Sarki, 22-year-old Anisha Pun, 29-year-old Janak Khatri, 65-year-old Mansuri Pun, four-year-old Nexon Pun, 20-year-old Dhamaya Pun, and 65-year-old Kalpana Kami, who are receiving treatment at the municipality hospital.
