Two held with over 4kg gold from Nepalgunj Airport

NEPALGUNJ, September 4: Police recovered over 4 kilograms of gold from Nepalgunj Airport on Friday. They have arrested two people in connection with the incident.

NEPALGUNJ, September 4: Police recovered over 4 kilograms of gold from Nepalgunj Airport on Friday. They have arrested two people in connection with the incident. 


According to the District Police Office, the two individuals had travelled from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj in a Shree Airlines flight. The two individuals have been identified to be 26-year-old Amir Lagun Bishwakarma and 36-year-old Budhiman Khati from Jhapa.

Police had approached the two individuals for questioning and had searched them at around 3PM after finding them to be suspicious, which led them to find the smuggled gold. 


According to Madhusudan Neupane, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Banke, six units of gold biscuits weighing around 3.994 kilograms were recovered from their shoes. 


In addition, the police recovered 5 gold lockets with Ganesh imprints, one traditional Nepali gold necklace and one gold bangle weighing 27.49 grams.With this the police recovered 4 kilogram 29.49 grams of gold from Bishwakarma and Khati. Further investigation into the case is currently underway. They have claimed that the gold belongs to them. 


The incident has raised questions over the security situation of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
