With a record 1,039 people testing positive for COVID-19 in a day, Nepal’s COVID-19 case tally on Sunday surged to over 54,000
KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Nepal has continued to report over 1,000 cases of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) every day for the past few days.
The data released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Sunday afternoon showed that the country recorded as many as 1,039 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the country's total caseload to over 54,000.

As many as 54,159 COVID-19 cases have so far been detected since the country reported the first case earlier on January 24.
As of Sunday afternoon, the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 has jumped to 345 with nine more cases of fatalities in the last one day.
According to Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, Nepal has tested a total of 840,527 samples to confirm the COVID-19 infection including 9,165 real time PCR tests carried out in the past 24 hours.
There are 15,117 active cases and 38,697people have so far recovered from the infection, according to the data compiled by the ministry. As many as 1,173 COVID-19 patients gained recovery on Sunday taking the recovery rate to 71.45 percent.
Eight districts - Morang, Sunsari, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Chitwan, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Rupandehi - have more than 500 cases of active cases each while seven other districts including Solukhumbu, Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, Dolpa, Mugu and Humla do not have any active case at present.
