BIRGUNJ, Aug 2: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests conducted at Narayani Hospital on Saturday confirmed 45 new cases of COVID-19, including 14 females.
According to the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Madan Upadhyay, the new cases were detected through 'mass testing' and 'contact tracing'.

Of the 45 fresh cases discovered on Saturday, 43 are from Birgunj Metropolitan City and one each from Sakhuwa Parsauni and Tori rural municipalities.
Earlier, the mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Bijay Kuamr Sarawagi had also contracted the virus and during his contact tracing, six people including two of his family members also tested positive for COVID-19.
Of 149 swab samples collected from Kanya Secondary School of Birgunj-4, 19 samples came out to be positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, 10 new cases were detected through mass testing at Birgunj-4. Also, five employees of a pharmaceutical company at Birgunj Pathlaiya Industrial Corridor have also tested positive for COVID-19.
